Formation and Form
Formation and Form: West Space 1993-2003 chronicles the part that West Space has played in presenting artists’ ideas and new art over the past ten years.

Formation and Form chronicles the part that West Space has played in presenting artists’ ideas and new art over the past ten years. It is a document of West Space’ history and ethos as well as being a book designed to provoke discussion about artist-run organisations and contemporary art. In this book we have looked at the nature of artist-run spaces as sites for independent action and the do-it-yourself sensibility. Artist-run organisations pursuing independence must think about how they can survive and grow, where they can find support and audiences for “cutting-edge” art and whether or not what they do is important to the culture or society at large. Formation and Form questions this tension which exists for all independent artists and artist-run spaces.
