Dialogue
is a topic based journal on contemporary art and culture published by West Space 1996-2000. Dialogue demonstrated there is a need for artists to be able to present their ideas in the context of a magazine as 'site' in terms of written and visual ideas. Dialogue was in part, a response to the lack of opportunity for artists to write about professional issues concerning their practice and the broader functions of the art system. The space of the published page provided artists and writers with a site of speculation, critique and play. The recording of these processes and ideas provided a different kind of insight into the concerns of artists, independent of the usual review and profile approaches. Each issue was based on a topic or theme. Dialogue included visual and graphic work, and a variety of fictional, critical, and speculative writing by artists, and contributors from a range of professions and perspectives. In February 2000, Stasis (No.13), the last issue of Dialogue, was published.
