Things of the dirt
Christine Prescott

Back home my immigrant father has a new colonial girl. She spends her days tending rose gardens (which are multiplying like cane toads). She shoots the little black wallabies shouting,

They’re not native to the area and we don’t want ‘em!

This work crafts captured sunlight, “weeds”, natives, dirt and things of the dirt, into forms that feel how this country must; melancholic and partly dead, but with a frightened beauty still capable of sustaining hope.

Christine has exhibited her emotive work since 1997 throughout Australia and has been involved in exchange programs with Indonesia and Singapore. Recently she was included in a two year touring exhibition of sculptural works concerning senses other than sight.
