The Moose Lovers
Alice Lang

It is said that during the winter season, the ‘Yukon male’ and a moose buck act very similar. They drink a lot, eat very little, fight and run around like crazy trying to find a mate for the winter.

The Moose Lovers is an exhibition of soft sculpture and photography by Alice Lang created in response to the unique relationship between human and animal experienced during a two-month artist residency undertaken in Dawson City, Yukon, Canada in 2006. The work creates tension between the familiar and the unknown, animal and human to blur the boundary between allure and repulsion.

Alice Lang is a Brisbane-based artist who was awarded the Queensland Art Gallery Hobday and Hingston Bursary in 2004, was artist in residence at Metro Arts in 2005 and the Klondike Institute for Art and Culture in Dawson City, Canada in 2006. She was recently announced the winner of the Pictures Category in the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards.
