The Making of a Place
Kate Cotching
30 Jan → 14 Feb 2004

The contours, bumps and crevices of the natural environment are influential factors when considering the location, industry and cultural life of a township. As time passes, human experience is imprinted onto the landscape, and natural forms become re-shaped by cultural needs. This use of the landscape forms multiple narratives that frame the lives of the many people who have inhabited the space through history.

The making of a place maps the local landscape and the stories that have moulded it into the familiar surroundings we see today.

Kate Cotching has been exhibiting regularly in Melbourne since 1997 She works primarily with paper, ink and a very sharp knife making intricate paper sculptures and installations.
