Group exhibition ‘Selekta 2005’ Installation view: West Space, Bourke Street Mall, 2005. Photography by West Space

The West Space Committee’s SelektaThe Real & The Unreal We've set it in motion, and now there’s no stopping it!

Selekta is an exhibition with a unique structure that encourages mutation, inclusivity and guilt by association…

The West Space Committee have each selected a piece of work by an artist that engages with this year’s theme: the real and the unreal.

In turn those artists have selected another artist’s work to be added in the second week of the show, and those artists have selected another round of artists to join them for the third, as Selekta literally expands in scope and meaning.

Is it a study in aesthetic and conceptual influence, an expression of fandom, or an inquiry into where art-making stops and curation begins? Or simply a roller coaster we now can’t get off!
