No Love Lost

No Love Lost is an installation that combines photography and the moving image. Two protagonists [a male and a female] form the basis of a double circular narrative recorded in an underground train station in Vienna. The ‘couple’ exist in a labyrinthine context within which they share a continual state of transience and no apparent destination. Due to their shared rhythm, they maintain [and are defined by] a closeness in proximity, but are destined never to meet. They become linked by one action of ‘modifying’ a bill posted image throughout their journey, which is the subject of one photographic document. This document becomes an accumulative trace of their remote interaction.

Jo Scicluna is a Melbourne-based artist who has shown in Melbourne, interstate and internationally. Working primarily with photography, the moving image and time-based installation, Scicluna’s practice utilises the landscape as subject and context to explore themes of love and alienation and evoke a contemporary sublime.
