Gallery 2

Invite Text:

In Small World Kristina Tsoulis-Reay re-creates the world of childhood in a series of paintings and dolls that investigate the role of memory in art practice.

Small World continues Kristina Tsoulis-Reay's on-going obsession with themes of childhood. Using painting and doll-making the exhibition re-configures images from the past and present into a series of dillusional half-memories. Subject matter ranging from Michael Jackson to a racoon become part of the same picture, creating an image of things bound up in a personal view of the world. Small World refers not only to the psychological realm of memory but to the intimate process of painting itself.

Kristina Tsoulis-Reay grew up in New Zealand. She completed honours in painting at RMIT in 2003 and has contributed to various collaborative exhibitions within Australia. Small World will be her first solo exhibition. Kristina currently lives and works in Melbourne.
