Final Spectral Painting
24 February - 11 March 2006
Gallery 3

The painting exhibited at West Space is the final one of a body of work I have called Spectral Painting, begun in 1990. Final Spectral Painting uses mathematical lines derived from highly realistic drawings of lavender to create density diagrams depicted in colours using complex sequencing.

The title Spectral Painting comes from Horatiu Radulescu who invented a philosophy and technique of musical composition whereby various sound qualities including certain harmonics usually hidden in conventional music are exposed to the listener as a shimmering energy. Likewise, my painting uses a rigorous technique to expose colour interference usually hidden from the viewer. ? JW
