IN TREATMENT
Fiona Macdonald
1 Sept → 7 Oct 2017

IN TREATMENT operated as a situation for a collective writing focused on the documentary addiction of art practice. Treatment sessions took place throughout the exhibition. Proxy interlocutors facilitated each session, working with consciousness-raising, orientation adjustment, and retroactive analysis. Each session was recorded through unreliable transcriptions and visual documents. Episodic video documents were developed from each session.

Session times as advertised.

Session 1: Working Backwards in the Document: transitioning from narrative present to unknowable past as an escape from characterisation
Episode 1: “Gone to Rehab”

Session 2: Changing Orientation: shifting the ground as a temporal decompression
Episode 2: “Horizontality”

Session 3: Working for Another: practical therapy on the script.
Episode 3: “In Production”

Session 4: Behind the screen: Closed session

IN TREATMENT was part of an ongoing series of exhibitions that collapsed the space of artwork and exhibition as a way of critically engaging the contemporary condition of the artwork within its narcoleptic historical appropriation. The problem of working with such nihilistic conditions unfolded in the public space through its unmet expectations.
