Fortress is a series of eight paintings concerned with the idea of containment. Fortress is a series of eight paintings concerned with the idea of containment. Although recent local and world politics may render the fortress theme topical, it is indisputably a universal and eternal social concern. To keep the right things in and the wrong things out is the function of a fortress, whether these things are people, animals, elements, or ideas. Fortress explores the safe benefits and the lonely, excluding pitfalls of a mental or physical barrier.

Mark Rodda was born in Tasmania and now lives and works in Melbourne. He has exhibited in solo and group shows in Melbourne, Sydney, and Tasmania. His most recent shows being Evil Twin (2004), at Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts and New Instruction in Lawlessness (2004), at TCB art.inc.
