Darkness at the Edge of Town
Jessica Russell
12 Mar → 27 Mar 2004

Found on the outskirts to rural communities, the Gateway sign provides an introduction to a space about to unfold. It serves as a landmark, indicating a border, a place of periphery, alerting us to a change about to take place in the landscape.

These structures span the country, linking time and place together. Relics from the past, they pose as a monument to a time gone by, imparting history and memory onto our perception of space as nostalgia mediates the unknown with the familiar.
