Beneath, Becoming
Hannah Clemen
16 July → 31 July 2004

Beneath, Becoming” is one of three projects Hannah has created for her Masters research, in which she has been exploring ways meditation techniques can be incorporated into interactive musical systems. In this case, the meditation is on the breath. Using a breath-sensing belt, the participant generates a soundscape designed to steady the breathing, calm and relax the mind, and enhance the connection between body and consciousness.

Hannah has been an active composer and musician in both acoustic and electronic fields for several years and has more recently begun exploring sound art and installations. She is currently completing her Masters research at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (ECU), having finished a Bachelor of Composition at UWA in 2000, and a Diploma of Performing Arts in Clarinet at ECU in 1997.

Hannah Clemen is part of Liquid Architecture. Liquid Architecture is an annual festival of sound arts presented by the ((tRansMIT)) sound collective and RMIT Union Arts. This year, presentations in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will feature international guests Tony Conrad, Pierre Bastien, Reinhold Friedl and Michael Vorfeld plus the cream of the local crop.
