All Day I Dream about Sex part 2
Christopher Sciuto
18 Oct → 16 Nov 2013

Christopher Sciuto is forcibly aligning movements to depict and document the exploration of new wave fetish. Extensively referencing Adidas fetish in this second instalment Sciuto is adopting a uniformed Maoist collective in the manner in which the documentation and evidence of this sexual kink is put on public display.

Following the path of function, to fashion, and fashion into fetish Adidas fetish is derivative of gym/work out wear and ‘Chav’ or ‘Dero’ culture; the fetish itself quite overtly sexualises the fashions and activities of gym culture. The fetish consists of wearing exclusively Adidas clothing; underwear, tracksuit pants, shirts, jumpers, hoodies, socks, and shoes, at all times — particularly before during and after sex.

Christopher Sciuto mixed-media visual artist whose work engages with contemporary cultural and social issues, in particular polarised subcultures and sexuality. These ideas are presented in precarious yet succinct installations, which often incorporate found objects or images, with an emphasis on the surface and texture of his chosen materials. Sciuto consciously draws from subcultures such as queer-core, rasquachismo and new wave fetish, referencing this imagery in drawn and sculptural elements. Much of the work explores Queer-core and fanzine culture of the late 20th century incorporating the distinct collage aesthetic found in these low-fi publications. Sciuto thrives on unearthing hidden or little-known sub-cultural movements, which reference the popular culture of a particular period. Sciuto takes inspiration by their ability to capture the characteristic idiosyncrasies of an era as well as their highly symbolic use of fashion. The sculptural objects in his own work intermix sub-cultural imagery with brash references to contemporary pop culture.
