Action/recollection: Here the Body Is centred around how human actions imply historical recollection. Its focus was the language of action, both as it is used by artists and as it is used more broadly by activists as a mode of political change. The project included work by local artists Bernhard Sachs and Kylie Wilkinson, by Rainer Ganahl, an artist based in New York who represented Austria at the 1999 Venice Biennale, and several groups who would not describe their work as art, including the Fairwear and Freetimor campaigns.

In each case, the address to our contemporary circumstance was generated, at least in part, through remembering the past. Actions reach back into human experience, but also project forward imaginatively, often with an implied utopian trajectory. A catalogue publication with texts by Tom Nicholson accompanied this project.
